Yankees Acquire Starlin Castro

In a move that coincided with the Chicago Cubs signing free agent super utility Ben Zobrist, the Yankees may have found an answer to their second base woes.

The Bombers traded starter/reliever Adam Warren and backup infielder Brendan Ryan to the Cubbies for Starlin Castro.

Castro is a young, right hand hitting, affordable option to play second base and occasionally spell Didi at short.

Castro seemed to be the odd man out in an overly crowded Cubs infield (Zobrist, Russell, Baez, Bryant, etc...)

This trade speaks volumes regarding Rob Refsnyder and the trust (or lack of) that the front office has in his ability to play second base every day.

In my opinion, I think the Yankees got tremendous value without giving up a lot of talent in return.

Adam Warren isn't a huge loss to the franchise. He was preceeded by the likes of David Phelps, Chris Capuano, Shawn Chacon, Aaron Small (way back).

I don't forsee finding a solid swingman to replace Warren's production to be all that difficult.

Giving up Brendan Ryan was an added bonus. His defense will be hard to replicate but a one armed blind seagull could replicate his offensive numbers, if needed.
